Job Description:

AirCare BLS EMT, BLS Ground Transport (Winston-Salem Base), Full-Time Days. Works as a driver and member of the Critical Care Transport teams, transferring patients between facilities.

Job Responsibility:

  • Works as a driver and member of the Critical Care Transport teams, transferring patients between facilities
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle, including maintenance of mission ready status, obeying laws and regulations of the highway as well as the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services
  • Assists transport nurses with the physical component of patient transfer
  • Promotes the safe and supportive transport environment for all passengers in the transport vehicle
  • Practices professional and courteous conduct
  • Meets guidelines to satisfy regulatory requirements of NCOEMS
  • Meets patient care guidelines as well as family and patient psychosocial and physical needs to optimize recovery
  • Conserves and maximizes utilization of resources
  • Utilizes knowledge of age/developmental specific care needs during emergency response or when utilizing emergency equipment (vehicle)

Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • 1 year experience driving emergency vehicles
  • Previous hospital experience required
  • North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician certification or higher
  • North Carolina Class C driver's license
  • Driver's Training Course (EVOC or CEVO)
  • BCLS AHA certification required
  • Strong oral, written, and listening communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to various situations in the work environment

  • Recognize and treat any medical condition with appropriate techniques, equipment, and knowledge of all State and Department Polices and Protocols including (BIAD) Blind Insertion Airway Device and medications approved by NCOEMS and the Medical Director
  • Ensures that the ambulance is clean, washed, and kept in a neat and orderly condition each shift
  • Determines that the vehicle is in proper mechanical condition by utilizing daily check-off sheets and reporting any known issues
  • Ensures that the ambulance patient care area is clean, restocked, equipment in working order, and kept in a neat and orderly condition at the beginning of each shift and when necessary to maintain a mission ready status when serving in a patient care role
  • Must be capable of handling equipment challenges and failures without support of internal hospital resources
  • Obtains necessary signatures and paperwork for each transport
