Job Description:

Performs somewhat routine, limited and less complicated functions in the installation, testing, troubleshooting and repairing of a variety of air conditioning (i.e., heating, ventilating, cooling, filtration, humidifying), controls and refrigeration systems; performs less complicated functions in the maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment of all types including absorption, centrifugal and compressor units. Performs required preventive maintenance on installed equipment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Performs somewhat routine, limited and less complicated functions in the installation, testing, troubleshooting and repairing of a variety of air conditioning (i.e., heating, ventilating, cooling, filtration, humidifying), controls and refrigeration systems
  • performs less complicated functions in the maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment of all types including absorption, centrifugal and compressor units
  • Performs required preventive maintenance on installed equipment
  • Inspects and examines less complicated components which make up the system to detect mechanical or electrical failures
  • May change filters, clean units and perform other routine maintenance
  • Disassembles less complicated related equipment to note condition and make necessary repairs or replacements
  • May check electrical, electronic and pneumatic controls peculiar to air conditioning and refrigeration equipment
  • Assists in making adjustments, repairs or replacements
  • May pump down and charge units with appropriate refrigerants
  • Assists in installation of equipment as outlined by engineer, using blueprints, sketches, specifications and manufacturers recommendations
  • Assists in testing and balancing air and chilled/hot water systems
  • Keeps records and makes reports of daily work, emergency/service calls investigated, service rendered, results of troubleshooting and general condition of equipment and systems
  • Makes recommendations for modification
  • May assist in reviewing controls and control systems for proper operation, sequencing and optimum efficiency and recommends changes to achieve optimum operations
  • Performs work to accomplish same
  • Required to adhere to all University, Departmental and OSHA safety policies, practices and requirements, as a condition of employment
  • Performs other related duties, including the maintenance of tools, etc.

Requirements:

  • High School education and 1 year of experience as a building heating, ventilating, cooling and controls mechanics plus the ability to read and write the English language
  • or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Environmental Protection Agency Refrigerant Certification required
