Job Description:

Meta is seeking an early-career AI Design Generalist to join our design team across our central products organization. This is a new kind of design role — and a unique opportunity to build your career at the forefront of AI-driven design. You'll use AI as your primary tool to design products, features, and flows, working across product design, content design, and front-end development. With guidance from principle-level designers and your manager, you'll learn to draw on design system foundations, content voice and tone guidelines, and front-end frameworks to ship experiences from problem framing through production code.

Job Responsibility:

  • Design across disciplines: Use AI tools and agents to design user experiences that integrate visual, interaction, content, and front-end elements
  • Bring ideas to life in prototypes: Use AI to generate functional prototypes to explore and validate design directions
  • Support production changes: Use AI to generate implementable, testable code and partner with engineers to land direct changes in product
  • Exploration: Use AI tools across the design process
  • Design excellence: Apply developing expertise in visual, interaction, and content design to craft and deliver high-quality user experiences through AI tools
  • Learning & iteration: Stay current with AI tool evolution and actively participate in team knowledge sharing
  • Support stakeholder alignment: Contribute to stakeholder alignment through prototypes and data-informed design decisions
  • Build partnerships: Work effectively with engineering, product, and research
  • Communicate your work clearly: Articulate your design decisions and rationale
  • Demonstrate responsible AI usage: Consistently protect people, data, and intellectual property by following policy-compliant, transparent practices

Requirements:

  • 0-2 years of experience in Product Design, Content Design, or related UX discipline with foundational skills in interaction design, visual design, or UX writing
  • Currently has, or in the process of obtaining, a Bachelors or Masters degree in design or related design field. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • AI tool familiarity with hands-on experience or demonstrated aptitude using AI design tools, prompt engineering, and content generation platforms
  • Prototyping skills with ability to create wireframes and mocks, and eagerness to build functional prototypes
  • Systems thinking awareness to help design solutions that work across products and platforms, with support from your team
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience working effectively with engineering, product management, research, and data science teams
  • Portfolio demonstrating your design process, teamwork, and contributions to user experience improvements
  • Communication skills to share design decisions, participate in critique, and contribute to team discussions

Nice to have:

  • Hybrid design background or demonstrated interest in both Product Design and Content Design disciplines
  • Technical curiosity including basic coding ability, interest in learning core engineering concepts and terminology
  • AI product exposure having worked on or contributed to conversational AI, generative AI features, or AI-native product development
  • System design awareness in information architecture, scalable content frameworks and design systems
  • Experience with accessibility and designing for broad range audiences perspectives and backgrounds
  • Emerging technology interest staying current with AI design tools, spatial computing, and multimodal interface design
  • Community involvement through learning, sharing, or participating in the advancement of AI-native design practices

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with clear ownership of medium-to-large production systems from problem statement and design doc through launch and iteration
  • A proven track record of shipping AI-powered products to production, with concrete examples where LLMs meaningfully improved a metric like engagement, time saved, satisfaction, or retention across one or more product areas
  • Hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs) in real applications, including prompt and tool design, retrieval-style patterns (such as RAG), and evaluation and monitoring in production
  • Strong computer science fundamentals (e.g., data structures, algorithms, and systems design) and a generalist mindset, comfortable moving between backend, data, and UX to get the job done
  • Backend engineering skills in at least one modern web stack (such as Ruby on Rails, Python, Go, or Node), plus confidence with relational databases and larger datasets, from data modeling to performant queries and analytics
  • Experience building modern web front-ends, ideally with React or a similar component-based framework

Job Responsibility
  • Design and build cross-cutting AI services (such as retrieval, context, evaluation, and guardrails) that power multiple product areas like classroom workflows, billing, and family communication
  • As a hybrid PM+Eng+Data builder: own the end-to-end product loop for the problems you take on: talk to customers and internal teams, define the success metric, design the workflow and user experience, shape the data and evaluation plan, and ship iterative releases from prototype to reliable, scalable production
  • Create shared abstractions and tooling for AI – for example, common prompt and tool patterns, logging and monitoring, and reusable components – so other engineers can build on a consistent foundation
  • Shape our data and system architecture so AI can safely stitch together longitudinal signals across product, billing, support, and operations and recommend what should happen next, not just report what happened
  • Lead by example in AI-augmented engineering, using AI to multiply your own speed, mentoring L2/L3 engineers, and raising the bar for how we design, ship, and operate AI-powered features
