The Agronomy Operations Millwright is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment across multiple South Central FS agronomy facilities. This role ensures operational reliability of blending plants, fertilizer handling systems, and Anhydrous Ammonia infrastructure to support customer service during critical windows. This position is mobile in nature, working across several locations within the trade territory, and plays a key role in minimizing downtime during peak seasons.
Job Responsibility
Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment including: Dry fertilizer blending towers and loadout systems, Conveyors, legs, augers, and handling equipment, Liquid fertilizer and chemical pumps, plumbing, and transfer systems, Bearings, gearboxes, belts, chains, and drive systems, Anhydrous Ammonia bulk plants and equipment
Diagnose mechanical failures quickly and perform efficient, safe repairs to minimize operational disruption
Perform preventative maintenance during off-season to ensure peak-season readiness
Travel between South Central FS agronomy locations to support maintenance needs
Prioritize repairs based on operational demands, especially during Spring and Fall application seasons
Work closely with location managers, applicators, and operations staff to coordinate maintenance and avoid downtime
Assist with facility inspections and seasonal startup/shutdown procedures
Install and commission new equipment or upgrades at agronomy facilities
Assist in millwright work associated with facility improvements such as Blender upgrades, Loadout improvements, Automation/mechanical retrofits
Perform welding, fabrication, and modification work as needed
Maintain service truck and tools in good working condition
Track and communicate parts needs for critical components
Work with operations leadership to plan offseason repair work and capital improvements
Successfully adhere to safety rules and company policies and procedures
Requirements
Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent thereof, and 3+ years of mechanical/Millwright work experience in industrial or agricultural settings
Requires the ability to obtain an acceptable valid Class A CDL and valid DOT medical card
Strong working knowledge of Mechanical power transmission systems, conveyor systems and bulk material handling
