We are seeking a forward-thinking Agronomist to lead biochar-based soil amendment and carbon farming initiatives across India. This role includes developing enriched biochar formulations, implementing standardized field application protocols, and designing biochar-based soil nutrition to enhance soil health and crop productivity while contributing to carbon credit generation. The role would also be responsible for creating SOPs and agronomy works for FOM and Energy Plantation(Napier grass etc).
Job Responsibility:
Develop and implement carbon farming projects aligned with Puroearth, Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) or similar
Design enriched biochar blends using FOM, vermicompost, and/or other organic inputs for various crop plantations for different geographies across India
Create and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for biochar field application, FOM and Energy plantation across diverse cropping systems
Lead design efforts to formulate biochar-based soil nutrition/fertilizer, including organic, inorganic, and compound
Conduct field trials to evaluate biochar impact on soil fertility, carbon sequestration, and crop yield
Collaborate with FPOs, NGOs, and government bodies to scale carbon and biochar initiatives
Monitor and document GHG reductions and soil carbon improvements for carbon credit validation
Support dMRV (digital Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) processes using GIS and remote sensing tools
Provide training to farmers and field staff on biochar production, application, and fertilizer use
Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and contribute to scientific publications
Requirements:
Master’s or PhD in Agronomy, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or related
8-10 years of experience in carbon farming, biochar application, or sustainable
Proven experience with SOP development and Soil Nutrition
Familiarity with carbon credit mechanisms and certification standards (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard)
Strong analytical skills in soil testing, GHG accounting, and agronomic data
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement
Willingness to travel extensively across rural and semi-urban
Nice to have:
Experience with FOM/LFOM integration, composting techniques and Energy (Napier)
Knowledge of Indian agro-ecological zones and cropping
Prior involvement in carbon finance or carbon registry
Familiarity with regenerative agriculture and digital agri-tech
