Job Description:

The Affordable Housing Underwriter will be responsible for supporting bankers by underwriting commercial credit requests, analyzing financial statements, assessing risk, ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory policies, and contributing to business process improvements. The role requires advanced technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and familiarity with commercial banking products and services. The position offers opportunities for growth and significant impact within the risk management group.

Job Responsibility:

Interface with and support bankers in underwriting requests for commercial credit extensions for new and existing clients
prepare a detailed written credit summary of commercial applicants
perform detailed financial analysis on companies including trend and ratio analysis
perform credit and personal financial statement analysis on individuals and guarantors
perform industry and geographical research and other due diligence
maintain compliance with Citibank credit policies and regulatory policies
identify process improvements and efficiencies that reduce costs and improve customer service levels
support Credit Underwriting Group Manager by leading projects and mentoring lower level credit officers
assess risk and apply sound ethical judgment in decision-making processes.

Requirements:

6-10 years of affordable housing underwriting experience
working experience in a regulatory and compliance policy environment
proven analytical skills including the ability to read and assess individual and company financial statements, cash flow, industry/competitive analysis and projections
demonstrated knowledge of intermediate accounting theory and its practical application in the credit underwriting process
excellent organizational skills, prioritizing capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments within required deadlines in a fast-paced environment
effective inter-personal and written/verbal communication skills
thorough problem recognition and resolution skills
pro-active disposition with ability to work autonomously and within a team
proficient in various spreadsheet and word processing applications (Excel and Word), including the use of graphs and charts and financial analysis software
requires good analytical skills in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex material from multiple sources
exercises wide degree of latitude and discretion.

Nice to have:

Master's Degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting
prior experience with affordable housing and real estate underwriting
strong familiarity with Citibank products and services
experience mentoring lower level credit officers.
