Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) has multiple exciting opportunities for Systems Safety Engineers & Software Safety Engineers on a proprietary Air Dominance program in Hazelwood, MO. Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Mid-Level (Level 3) and Senior (Level 4). Here is a phenomenal opportunity to execute development excellence on an exciting, fast-paced, and critically important program in the Boeing Defense, Space, & Security (BDS) Air Dominance (AD) division. The selected candidate will provide the technical guidance and perform critical System Safety or Software Safety Engineering work. The work will consist of planning, coordinating, and performing detailed System Safety tasks such as system and subsystem hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, and software safety analysis to mitigate potential product safety hazards. In addition to working with System Safety personnel, the individual will work extensively with design, development, and test personnel to impart safety requirements early in the design process. These tasks are accomplished within a collaborative environment with other program teams to assist with and/or plan design, develop, and verify lifecycle balanced system solutions including resolution of multi-functional technical issues.
Job Responsibility:
Analyze the integration of complex airplane systems and their corresponding airplane-level effects, failure indications, and flight crew actions as part of a system of systems analysis
Contribute by documenting safety analyses, hazard mitigation, validation, and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards
Support the definition and validation of safety, mission success, and airworthiness
provide support for incorporating these elements into designs, operations, and procedures
Participate in tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify that systems meet defined safety and mission assurance requirements
Assist with creating and maintaining aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes
Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions
Perform various analyses and integration activities to optimize total system of systems architecture for Software Safety
Identifies, analyzes, and assesses regulatory and/or contractual compliance of aerospace systems, products and services against the applied development and design assurance standards (MIL-STD-882E, JSSEH, DO-178, DO-254) to provide the necessary hazard mitigation evidence
Analyze software to identify potential failure conditions or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns
Identifies safety issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices (MIL STD-882E)
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements
Verifies that the system meets or exceeds the defined safety requirements by conducting safety analyses, audits, and reviews
Demonstrates safety hazard risk mitigation and control methods to the customer and regulators
Resolve multi-functional technical issues
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
1+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, airplane systems engineering and integration, airplane safety, or commercial airplane certification
Experience with safety analysis methods, including Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (FMEA), or System Safety Assessments (SSAs)
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required
This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only
U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required
Nice to have:
Experience in System Safety or Software Safety
Experience developing and applying aerospace-related system safety analysis methods such as Common Cause Analysis (CCA), Cascading Effects Analysis (CEA), and Fault-tree Analysis (FTA)
Applied experience in airplane systems design or analysis (e.g., Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Avionics, Propulsion)
Experience demonstrating compliance with 14 CFR 25.1309 and application of industry practices such as ARP 4761 and 4754
Experience developing requirements for aerospace systems and hardware
Knowledge of Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) methods as they apply to the development of engineering tools
FAA pilot certificate/ratings or equivalent aviation experience
