Job Description:

The Aeromechanical Engineer 3 is responsible for the design, test, build, and improvement of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), and their support equipment based on contractual or internal requirements.

Job Responsibility:

  • Use SolidWorks to design and modify parts and assemblies
  • Create 2D drawings of parts and assemblies complete with bill of material (BOM) for internal or external fabrication and assembly
  • Perform aerodynamic analysis and calculations to inform the design and predict the behavior of aircraft
  • Develop and analyze mechanical systems for aircraft, including engines, airframes, and avionics
  • Conduct simulations, testing, and prototyping to validate designs and ensure they meet performance and safety requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and systems engineers, to integrate mechanical systems into larger aerospace systems
  • Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for potential mechanical failures
  • Design and oversee the manufacturing and assembly processes of mechanical components, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation of designs, processes, and test results
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Regular and reliable attendance on a full time basis

Requirements:

  • Active Top Secret DoD Clearance preferred
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks or CATIA
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and quality control procedures
  • Understanding of regulatory and industry standards, such as FAA regulations, AS9100, and ISO 9001
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with 3D printing technologies
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 4-8 years of experience in aerospace or related field
  • Experience working for a military contract and performing formal technical presentations such as a PDR, CDR, PRR
  • Experience with UAVs or RC aircraft
  • Experience in a rapid prototype environment

Nice to have:

  • Master's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or a related field is a plus
  • SolidWorks Certified Professional in Mechanical Design (CSWP) is a plus
  • Experience with Star-CCM+ and XFLR a plus
