We are looking to recruit an Advocate to work 25 hours per week that will provide independent and confidential advocacy to children and young people under Local Authority care in Durham. You will work with looked after children and young people to empower them to express their wishes and feelings in decisions that affect their lives to ensure that their voices are heard. Your role is to listen to them, hear how they feel and what it is they want and support them by promoting their understanding of outcomes and options that are available to them so they can make informed decisions whilst ensuring that their legal rights are upheld and that they are treated fairly.
Job Responsibility:
Provide independent and confidential advocacy to children and young people under Local Authority care
Empower looked after children and young people to express their wishes and feelings in decisions that affect their lives
Ensure voices of children and young people are heard
Listen to children and young people to understand their feelings and wants
Support children and young people by promoting their understanding of outcomes and available options
Assist children and young people in making informed decisions
Ensure legal rights of children and young people are upheld and they are treated fairly
Attend decision-making meetings with the young person
Ensure others know how the young person is feeling and what they want
Provide impartial information to the young person
Assist the young person in making a complaint
Ask questions to other professionals on behalf of the young person
Signpost to other relevant services
Requirements:
Experience working with children, young people, and/or vulnerable adults within a relevant setting
Ability to communicate effectively with children, young people, and professionals
Understanding of the importance of maintaining professionalism
Must live within the geographical area to fulfil the role's requirements
Legal right to work in the United Kingdom
Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check, references, and a Digital Risk Assessment
