Job Description

We are looking to recruit four Advisers to play an important role in the LGA's Policy team, working with colleagues to help shape national policy and programmes.

Job Responsibility

  • Support the LGA's policy work on fire and rescue related matters
  • Support the LGA's community safety policy work
  • Support the LGA's public health work
  • Support the LGA's work to shape guidance and regulation following passing of English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act
  • Contribute to the delivery of assigned projects and programmes
  • Work as part of a team
  • Undertake horizon scanning and intelligence gathering
  • Prepare reports, policy papers and briefings
  • Contribute to lobbying positions and improvement strategies
  • Contribute to the development of networks and partnerships

Requirements

  • Knowledge and skills to engage effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from across the public, private and voluntary sectors
  • Proactive and organised approach to work
  • Good understanding of the wider environment
  • Ability to build positive working relationships
  • Strong communicator and problem solver
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently

  • Administer the training and competence scheme, including assisting advisers on their path to achieving competent adviser status, supporting the broader business in complying with SM&CR requirements, and overseeing the management of specialist licence controls
  • Serve as a point of contact for complex or non-routine regulatory queries, taking appropriate action to ensure timely and effective resolution
  • Maintain the Regulatory section of the intranet by updating content with new documents and revisions and removing obsolete material
  • Draft and update policies and guidance to a high standard, ensuring accuracy and suitability for the intended audience
  • Prepare and circulate the monthly Regulatory Bulletin
  • Review and assess the organisation’s Financial Promotions to confirm factual accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Produce Management Information to keep the Compliance Manager and Head of Risk and Compliance appropriately informed of activities within the L&R teams
