An exciting opportunity for a part time, permanent, Band 7 Advanced Speech and Language Therapist to work in the Community Children & Young People's Service (CYPS) in Northumberland. The service provides a single service to all children and young people aged 0-18 years living in Northumberland, including those living in difficult and challenging circumstances. The post will work across the neurodevelopmental, mental health and learning disability pathways and the successful candidate will be a core member of the multi-disciplinary assessment team.
Job Responsibility:
Provide advanced SALT assessment, intervention and recommendations for children and young people accessing neurodevelopmental, mental health and learning disability pathways
Work as an integral member of the CYPS MDT
Support the SALT provision in the service going forward
Liaise closely with fellow professionals to address communication difficulties as part of a holistic, service user centred service
Provide high quality, evidence-based assessments and interventions
Travel to other sites across the Trust as part of the role
Requirements:
Recognised SALT degree or equivalent
Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses/CPD to Masters level equivalence
Post graduate level qualification relevant to area of specialism
Registration with HCPC
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict management
Evidence of effective organisational skills
Expert supervision skills and experience to support others
Evidence of maintaining accurate and contemporaneous record keeping
Be able to travel between various locations across the Trust geographical area
Experience of working with CYP who have complex and behaviours that challenge
Experience of promoting inclusive communication by developing communication-friendly environments that remove barriers
Experience of collaborative working with families, carers and other professionals around a CYP
Coordinating and supporting staff in the day to day provision of clinical services
Experience and ability to work in community settings and within an MDT
Experience of delivering appropriate specialist assessments and evidence-based interventions
Able to provide training to carers and professionals and support professionals to consider a child's speech, language and communication skills
Experience of providing clinical supervision to clinical staff and undertaking appraisals
Proven ability to manage a clinical caseload in a flexible manner as required
Knowledge of health and safety, equal opportunities legislation and policies
Applicants must have current UK professional registration
