HPE Labs - Advanced Security Research Associate (Intern). The Systems Architecture Lab is currently seeking highly qualified, self-motivated interns to accelerate research towards new applications, core methodologies and technologies in computing systems architecture with a focus on security technologies, distributed systems or formal verification at HPE Labs. In particular, we are seeking candidates who can contribute to our work on moving security systems beyond conventional approaches increasing usability through radical simplicity and portability across data systems and extending formal verification methods beyond core system correctness to helping users craft correct access controls. One of the key areas of application for this security work is in the area of agentic AI systems and task-specific data/network security controls.
Job Responsibility:
Accelerate research towards new applications, core methodologies and technologies in computing systems architecture with a focus on security technologies, distributed systems or formal verification
Contribute to work on moving security systems beyond conventional approaches increasing usability through radical simplicity and portability across data systems and extending formal verification methods beyond core system correctness to helping users craft correct access controls
Provide thought leadership and technical influence both internally and externally to HPE
Take innovative ideas and make them real – contributing along the full range from initial novel ideas to design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer
Collaborate with HPE Labs research teams as well as with external partners
Work in alignment with HPE's broader innovation community
Requirements:
Pursuing PhD degree (or other degree with significant research and innovation experience) in a relevant discipline (e.g. computer science, electrical engineering, math, physics, statistics, mechanical engineering, etc.)
Track record of world-class innovative contributions and ideas
Experience with innovative solution development, such as developing proofs-of-concepts, first-of-a-kind solutions, and/or technology transfer
Demonstrated ability to generate, frame, and carry out leadership research (for example, via papers published in top-tier conferences or journals) is required
Strong track record to work independently and in teams
Ability to develop rapid understanding of select problems and opportunities
Deep understanding of the relevant environment, ecosystem, trends, and literature
Excellent research and development skills
Ability to innovate, make research contributions, and bring ideas to reality in compelling ways

Depending on project the following skills may be preferred: Experience with formal verification of software including practical tools and methods
Experience with security controls in the context of large distributed systems
Familiarity with designing, implementing, and managing cloud architecture
Knowledge of hybrid and multi-cloud strategies, including integration with on-premises infrastructure
Knowledge of implementing green data center practices, including energy-efficient technologies and cooling optimization
Understanding of sustainability regulations, standards, and best practices as they apply to data center design and operation
Familiarity with workload scheduling, resource allocation, and optimization in distributed computing environments
Demonstrated ability to analyze workloads, predict resource requirements, and dynamically allocate resources to meet performance, efficiency, and sustainability goals
Experience programming in C, C++, Python, Go, etc.
Knowledge of programming frameworks and libraries such as HPC Mercury, ZeroMQ, CUDA, OpenCL, Libfabric, Pytorch, Simplivity and Kubernetes and GPU programming is a plus
Experience with at least one cloud orchestration and management tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Slurm, Apache Mesos, etc.
Experience with serverless platforms like Knative, OpenFaas, etc.
Preferred knowledge of Data Analytics and Applied Mathematics are a plus
Experience with different accelerators (e.g: GPU, FPGA, ASICs, etc)
Experience with Linux kernel
Experience programming FPGAs in HLS or System Verilog
Experience with basic data science tools in Python or R
