Job Description:

This is a pivotal role designed for a practitioner who leads by example, combining complex frontline practice with the mentoring and development of colleagues. Gateshead Council is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Advanced Practitioner to join their Children with Disabilities (CWD) Team.

Job Responsibility:

  • Managing a reduced but high-complexity caseload involving children with profound disabilities and complex family needs
  • Providing expert clinical guidance and support to less experienced Social Workers and students within the team
  • Assisting the Team Manager in ensuring high standards of assessment, planning, and intervention across the service
  • Leading on complex safeguarding cases and representing the authority in high-level multi-agency forums
  • Ensuring all work meets the requirements of the Children Act and relevant SEND legislation

Requirements:

  • Current registration with Social Work England (SWE)
  • Substantial post-qualifying experience within Children's Services, specifically with children with disabilities and complex health needs
  • Proven ability to support and mentor peers, with strong decision-making capabilities
  • Deep understanding of safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act, and the SEND Code of Practice
