This is a pivotal frontline role for confident practitioners who thrive in a duty environment and have strong safeguarding and court experience. You will play a key role in ensuring timely, robust decision-making at the point of referral and assessment, supporting children and families at the earliest stage of statutory intervention. This role requires sound judgement, resilience, and the ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a child-centred focus.
Job Responsibility:
Undertake duty responsibilities, responding to new referrals and safeguarding concerns
Attend and contribute to strategy meetings
Lead and complete Section 47 enquiries
Prepare for and attend Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs)
Initiate and issue care proceedings where required
Transfer cases to longer-term teams following ICPC or after the first court hearing
Provide leadership, guidance and oversight to less experienced social workers
Ensure high-quality assessments, risk analysis and decision-making in line with statutory guidance
Requirements:
Qualified Social Worker with significant post-qualifying experience
Strong experience within Assessment or Safeguarding teams
In-depth knowledge of child protection processes and legislation
Confident leading Section 47 investigations and care proceedings
Experience of court work and preparing high-quality statements and reports
Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to provide mentoring and professional support within the team
