Job Responsibility

To provide a highly specialised service that includes assessment, advice and management of children and adolescents with a range of motor co-ordination difficulties and autistic spectrum disorders.
To act as a source of expertise and demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience in the highly skilled management of children with developmental co-ordination and behavioural disorders which affect their functional abilities and activities of daily living.
To provide specialist advice to other inter-agency professional staff and to provide clinical education and training to others including Senior II therapists, support staff and students.
To take a lead role in the management of more difficult and complex cases within a multi-disciplinary team approach acting as an autonomous practitioner.
To work in the community setting frequently as a lone Practitioner in line with the Trusts lone worker policy.

Requirements

BSc in Occupational Therapy or Dip COT
HCPC Registration
Relevant post graduate courses / CPD
Portfolio evidence of reflective practice
Significant and relevant post graduate experience Paediatric developmental coordination disorders / autistic spectrum disorders
Community / lone worker experience
Standardised Assessment tools
Outcome measures
Appraisal / supervision / teaching of more junior staff
Paediatric developmental coordination disorders / autistic spectrum disorders
Child Protection procedures
Audit / Research / Service Evaluation
Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
Advanced understanding of clinical governance and it's implications for services.
Understanding of family / team dynamics and how to develop working relationships with all involved in the child's care.
Understanding of the impact of disability on children and their families
Understanding of data protection, confidentiality and health and safety requirements in meeting the needs of the child and family.
Good I.T. skills
Ability to present information, written and verbal in a clear and logical manner
Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate appropriately
Ability to keep accurate and legible clinical records
Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and within emotional or challenging situations
Problem solving approach
Ability to communicate effectively and work well within a multi-professional team

Driving licence and car insurance commensurate with the role

Nice to have

MSc in Paediatric Occupational Therapy or other relevant MSc
Member of RCOT
Research qualification
Experience of mainstream education
Active involvement in relevant RCOT special interest groups, local OT Federation sub-groups or voluntary organisations
