Job Description:

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) will be expected to work within the 12 bedded Emergency Department that treats all emergency attendances across the Bailiwick of Guernsey. The department comprises of 6 majors bays, 1 paediatric bay, 2 resuscitation bay, eye room, triage room and minor assessment room. All patients are assessed and cared for by a team of specialist doctors and nurses that treat approximately 23,000 patients a year. The department manages the care and wellbeing needs for both adults and children.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide leadership and support in the assessment, planning and delivery of patient/client care
  • Monitor standards of practice and address factors impacting care quality
  • Ensure risk assessment strategies are employed
  • Utilise information to guide decision-making and strategic direction
  • Promote service user involvement in care
  • Keep abreast of political and professional developments
  • Ensure NMC professional code of conduct is upheld
  • Develop effective channels of communication
  • Maintain practice expertise through delivery of patient/client care one day a week
  • Work within level of competence and locally agreed guidelines
  • Work closely with Emergency Department Doctors
  • Provide advanced and comprehensive health assessment
  • Have advanced knowledge and skills in emergency care
  • Prescribe elements of care and treatment
  • Order diagnostic tests, interpret results and initiate patient management
  • Undertake agreed specialist clinical skills (e.g., Suturing, Arterial Blood Sampling, Digital nerve blocks, Joint relocation, Advanced airway skills)
  • Provide leadership in promotion of health and well-being
  • Promote and support implementation of supervision
  • Ensure practice environment is conducive to learning
  • Identify training and educational needs of staff
  • Be a resource of clinical knowledge
  • Ensure programmes of learning are developed
  • Maintain own continuing professional development
  • Undertake in-house annual mandatory training
  • Assist in recruitment and retention
  • Ensure team members are aware of organisational objectives
  • Monitor implementation of organisational policies
  • Assist in providing annual appraisals
  • Identify and assist staff with performance issues
  • Monitor and review staffing levels and skill mix
  • Promote a learning culture
  • Act as a professional role model
  • Work to monitor expenditure and assist in budget allocation
  • Develop evidence-based policies and procedures
  • Communicate clearly with all staff
  • Ensure conflict is managed appropriately
  • Ensure written and electronic communication complies with standards
  • Communicate with media and outside agencies
  • Attend relevant meetings
  • Support departmental Senior Nursing team
  • Identify potential areas for audit activity
  • Assist and investigate critical incidents
  • Provide leadership to utilise data from feedback and complaints
  • Ensure evidence-based practice
  • Take a professional lead in developing practice
  • Access organisational electronic information systems
  • Modify, structure, maintain and present data and information

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with relevant emergency care experience at a senior level
  • Approved Teaching/Mentoring Qualification
  • Degree in a related field
  • Current EPALS/ALS
  • Masters degree in Advanced Clinical Practice qualification
  • Non-medical Prescribing qualification
  • Experience as a Team Leader co-ordinating the care of patients with complex undiagnosed conditions attending emergency care
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills with particular reference to Multidisciplinary team working, service users, carers and managers liaising with external agencies
  • Experienced in conducting individual performance reviews
  • Experienced in the recruitment and selection processes and other HR functions
  • Evidence of a thorough understanding and completion of Emergency Quality Improvement indicators. KPIs
