The Advance Planner (AP) is accountable for coordinating assets to meet the needs of clients, drivers, and the company. This role works closely with Regional Planners to accurately forecast asset availability and optimize freight allocation within the assigned region. The AP focuses on maximizing driver utilization and controlling costs while proactively identifying issues, capturing opportunities, and communicating effectively across teams.
Job Responsibility
Analyze driver, tractor, and trailer availability to determine capacity, constraints, and opportunities within the region
Forecast regional planning needs by monitoring volume trends, cycles, and operational demands
Develop and communicate effective planning strategies to Fleet Management, adjusting plans as needed based on changing conditions
Support daily operations through decision-making, volume and asset management, and process improvement initiatives
Collaborate with the Planning Supervisor to guide decision-making aligned with business objectives
Provide cross-functional coverage within the department, including during absences
Track and leverage KPIs to measure performance and drive continuous improvement
Act as a key point of contact for operational problem-solving and customer-related inquiries
Partner with the broader Operations team to achieve departmental goals and support network-wide initiatives
Maintain awareness of impacts beyond the assigned region and contribute where needed
Proactively identify and respond to operational challenges in a timely and effective manner
Contribute to the development and implementation of process improvements that enhance efficiency
Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean practices and training
Perform tasks such as load tracking, balance management, and customer communication
Participate in training, development programs, and team initiatives (e.g., 4DX)
Take on additional projects and duties as assigned by the Planning Supervisor
Requirements
1-3 years of previous transportation or logistics experience is an asset
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proven analytical and critical thinking skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities
Demonstrated skills in aligning goals with strategic direction to achieve targeted business results
Proven team player with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
Strong knowledge of company goals, work direction, and practices
