The Adult & Community Learning Skills Coach will deliver high quality teaching, assessment, and learner support across a range of short, community-based adult learning programmes funded through the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) Adult Skills Fund (ASF). Delivery will take place across community venues and programmes will range from short courses (minimum 15 days) to longer programmes (up to 20 weeks). The role supports adults aged 19+, many of whom may face complex barriers to learning, including mental health challenges, autism, low confidence, unemployment, or previous negative experiences of education.
Job Responsibility
Deliver engaging, high-quality teaching and assessment across community-based adult learning programmes
Teach and assess accredited and non-accredited qualifications in line with awarding body and SYMCA requirements
Plan learning using robust initial assessment and individual learning plans
Ensure learning is sequenced, coherent, and ambitious
Ensure learners make clear progress in every session
Deliver learning through group sessions and 1:1 support
Embed English, maths, digital skills, employability, and confidence-building
Work with adults from diverse backgrounds including learners with autism and mental health needs
Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Promote learner wellbeing, confidence, and resilience
Identify and address barriers to attendance, engagement, and achievement
Embed Safeguarding, Prevent, and British Values
Follow safeguarding and health & safety policies
Maintain accurate, timely learner records
Use ePortfolio system to evidence learning
Complete required reviews, registers, and documentation
Support learner retention and achievement
Participate in internal quality assurance and Ofsted readiness
Manage time and workload across multiple community venues
Maintain up-to-date CPD record
Build positive working relationships
Provide impartial information, advice, and guidance to support learner progression
Record learner outcomes and destinations
Requirements
Experience delivering adult or community-based learning
Experience teaching and assessing qualifications
Knowledge of Adult Skills Fund (ASF) / AEB funding
Understanding of Ofsted expectations for adult learning
Experience working with learners with complex barriers, including autism and mental health needs
Confident using ePortfolio systems and digital tools
Strong communication, organisation, and time-management skills
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and learner wellbeing
Nice to have
Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, or equivalent)
Assessing qualification (TAQA or equivalent)
Experience delivering wellbeing, leadership, or business-related provision
