We are looking for an Admissions Specialist to support first-year students near South Orange, New Jersey through advising, onboarding, and early academic success initiatives. This Long-term Contract position focuses on helping new students make informed course selections, stay on track academically, and connect with the services that support their transition to university life. The role also contributes to enrollment and engagement events while upholding institutional policies and student support standards.
Job Responsibility
Guide new students in selecting appropriate courses and building academic plans for their initial credits of study
Track student performance during the first-year experience and provide timely outreach when additional support is needed
Offer individualized guidance, encouragement, and referrals to campus-based services that promote student success
Represent the department at orientation programs, campus preview events, open houses, and other student engagement activities
Apply university regulations and compliance expectations consistently in daily advising and student interactions
Collaborate with academic success teams and institutional committees to support student-centered initiatives
Maintain accurate advising documentation and communicate relevant updates to students and internal partners
Perform additional administrative or student support duties as needed to meet departmental goals
Requirements
Experience in academic advising, academic affairs, or student support within an educational setting
Ability to assist students with course planning, academic progress review, and resource navigation
Knowledge of higher education policies, compliance standards, and student service practices
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with students, faculty, and campus partners
Background in event coordination or participation in student-facing programs such as orientations or open houses
Organized approach to managing multiple priorities, documentation, and follow-up activities
Proficiency in education management environments and student support processes
