Provide professional nursing care to patients, primarily during the admission process and in support of their overall treatment and well-being, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the organization. This role mainly ensures patients are assessed, admitted, and oriented to the facility promptly and efficiently. The Admission Nurse collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care and ensure a seamless transition into treatment.
Job Responsibility:
Coordinate the admission process by collaborating with referral sources, physicians, and other staff to ensure efficient and timely patient entry
Obtain, review, and verify physician orders (including but not limited to admission orders) as needed
Obtain, review, and verify admitting patient’s medication history per protocol
Document patient information, assessments, and interventions accurately and in compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards
Complete and ensure completeness of all admission-related documentation and ensure submission within required timeframes
Orient patients and their families (if applicable) to the hospital’s policies, procedures, and treatment environment
Provide education to patients and families (if applicable) about treatment plans, medications, and patient rights
Monitor and report any changes in patients’ conditions during the admission process to the attending physician promptly
Communicate and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers, therapists, medical staff, and psychiatric providers, to ensure comprehensive patient care
Act as a liaison between the hospital, referral sources, and patient support systems to ensure a smooth transition into care
Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and behavioral health regulations to maintain patient safety and confidentiality
Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by monitoring patient behavior and implementing de-escalation techniques as needed
Act as an advocate for patients
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and training programs to enhance the admission process and patient care delivery
Perform other related duties as assigned to support patient care and the nursing department
Requirements:
Associate degree in nursing required
Registered Nurse licensed by Wisconsin State Board of Nursing
License must be in good standing with the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing
American Health Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue required within thirty (30) days of date of hire
Annual re-certification is required
Formal training in management of the aggressive patient required within sixty (60) days of date of hire
Annual re-certification is required
Nice to have:
Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescent and adults is preferred
