The Music Department at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, is seeking an instructor to teach the following: applied voice (2 positions) - including a weekly studio class, applied piano, and applied flute. Juries and studio classes are compensated in addition to the weekly lesson time. Faculty teach 12 lessons per semester to each student. 1 credit equals 30 min. and 2 credits equals a 60 min. weekly lesson. Lessons are preferably given during business hours, however, evening flexibility is also a possibility. Additional opportunities for GU Adjunct Faculty can include recitals, and potential for teaching academic courses based on the faculty’s expertise and needs of the department.
Job Responsibility:
Provide weekly one-on-one applied instruction to music majors, minors, and non-majors
Prepare students for juries, recitals, ensemble performances, and other performance opportunities
Maintain regular communication with students regarding progress, goals, and expectations
Collaborate with ensemble directors and other faculty to support student performance within the department
Submit grades according to established deadlines
For applied voice, lead a weekly studio voice class.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Music
Experience teaching applied lessons in one of the instrument areas listed.
Nice to have:
Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the ability to effectively respond to the academic needs of learners from diverse backgrounds
Experience teaching college age musicians
For applied piano, the ability to accompany instrumentalists in their recitals and juries
