Holyoke Community College invites adjunct applications to teach Education classes under the Health and Professional Studies Division. Adjunct faculty provide a quality learning experience for Holyoke Community College students on a semester basis. Adjunct faculty report to the Division Dean and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the student is one of teacher and facilitator of learning. Adjunct classes in the Education Department often run in the evenings and on weekends.
Job Responsibility
Distribute and review the course syllabus during the first class meeting
Utilize active learning methods and use a variety of instructional strategies
Remain abreast of ongoing developments and practices in his/her professional content area(s)
Arrange for the acquisition and preparation of appropriate materials and equipment
Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data including assessment of student performance
Support students' learning goals
Make reasonable provisions to accommodate individual differences
Maintain the academic integrity of the college
Make himself/herself available to assist students in achieving their learning goals
Be aware of and recommend campus services to students
Attend all scheduled classes
Notify supervisor and provide an alternate assignment if it is necessary to miss a class
Requirements
Master's Degree in Education or related area
Massachusetts teacher's licensure or certification
Minimum five years of classroom teaching experience
Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body
Nice to have
Bilingual English/Spanish
Experience teaching in higher education
Experience with online teaching
Familiarity with EEC and DESE regulations and policies
