Job Description:

We seek high-performing and committed individuals to join a well-established team of Acute Medicine Consultants within a leading healthcare provider in Northern Ireland. A dynamic multidisciplinary team supports the department and works closely with specialists in Respiratory, Diabetes, Infectious Disease, Renal Medicine, and Intensive Care to deliver high-quality care to acutely unwell patients.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide expert clinical assessment and management of patients within the Acute Medicine service
  • Supervise and support junior medical staff, ACPs, and nursing teams during clinical sessions
  • Participate in providing and developing the Same Day Emergency Care and short-stay services
  • Engage in departmental meetings, governance activities, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to clinical colleagues' education and professional development, including simulation-based learning
  • Undertake administrative duties relating to patient care and departmental functioning
  • Take part in on-call and emergency support responsibilities, aligned with departmental rota
  • Participate in an annual appraisal and job planning process, with flexibility to accommodate special interests or roles in education, research, or leadership

Requirements:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree
  • Full MRCP (UK) or equivalent postgraduate medical qualification
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • CCT or CESR in Acute Medicine
  • Applicants with a CCT/CESR in General Medicine with substantial experience in Acute Medicine at the consultant level will also be considered
  • Evidence of continued professional development (including CME)
  • Minimum of 12 years of medical experience post-qualification
  • At least 6 years of experience in Acute Medicine in Specialty Doctor or SAS grades
  • Proven ability to manage a wide range of acute medical conditions independently
  • Familiarity with Clinical Governance, Audit, and patient safety practices
  • Experience in supervising and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
  • Experience with multidisciplinary teamwork and service development
