This post is an excellent and new opportunity for a doctor with Approved Clinician who has a special interest in Old Age Psychiatry. The post holder will provide Acting Consultant Psychiatric input into Oakwood ward predominately. Oakwood ward is a 10-bed general adult acute psychiatric ward located in Carleton Clinic, Carlisle.
Job Responsibility
Providing Acting Consultant Psychiatric input into Oakwood ward
Working in a multidisciplinary setting focusing on the mental health of people over 65
Managing complex interactions between mental illness, physical health (frailty), and social needs using biopsychosocial framework
Diagnosing and treating conditions like dementia, late-life depression, schizophrenia, and anxiety
Providing person-centered, holistic care in hospital
Assessment & Diagnosis: Evaluating patients for mental illnesses and cognitive disorders
Treatment Management: Developing and implementing personalized treatment plans
Multi-agency Collaboration: Working within multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care
Physical & Mental Health Coordination: Managing cases where physical frailty complicates mental health issues
Support for Caregivers: Offering guidance, education, and support to families and caregivers
Support & Advocacy: Ensuring patient autonomy, dignity, and tailored, person-centered care
Requirements
MBBS (or equivalent)
Fully registered with the GMC with specialist registration
Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
Approved clinician status
Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation
Experience of multidisciplinary team working
Wide clinical experience in psychiatry in different clinical settings
Experience of Clinical Audit
High level of clinical skills
Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Excellent communication skills
Excellent teaching skills
Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner
Able to sustain self and support others
Trustworthiness
Able to meet the mobility requirements of the post
Maturity, openness and flexibility
Nice to have
Has undergone training in educational supervision
An area of special interest relevant to the the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies
Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and mental health settings
Experience in service management or development
Established record of clinical leadership
Established ability as a clinical teacher
