Previous experience in painting or equivalent role required
Proven knowledge of painting and finishing techniques, and hazardous materials handling, application, and disposal
Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

Job Responsibility

Maintains a friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients, and co-workers
Anticipates and responds to customer needs
Applies protective and decorative coats of paint, varnish, lacquer, and/or other related materials to a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment, and other structures
Washes, scrapes, sands, torches, and/or smooths interior and exterior surfaces prior to painting, varnishing, lacquering, or applying other related materials
Installs, repairs, and maintains drywall, wall texturing, and ceiling acoustic texturing
Erects diverse types of scaffolding, staging, ladders, and planks to reach surfaces of work area for painters and others
Determines appropriate color for new or replacement applications through consultation with customers and maintains existing paint surfaces through matching and tinting of appropriate paint products
Prepares and implements line striping layouts for streets and parking lots according to the Department of Transportation and other various requirements
Identifies, handles, and appropriately disposes of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials, and other hazardous materials, and adheres to all other safety policies and procedures

Requirements

Ability to follow, model and promote conduct that adheres to the University of California Principles of Community
Plumbing: Ability to troubleshoot and analyze all interior and exterior plumbing problems. Must have the skill to operate a power and hand snake
Electrical: Ability to troubleshoot and analyze problems with electrical systems. Must have knowledge of breaker systems and time clocks. Must possess the skills to replace, repair, or install: light fixtures, outlets, switches, garbage disposals, heating system and bathroom fans
Carpentry: Ability to perform minor interior and exterior carpentry projects. Must possess skills in furniture repair, door and doorframe replacement, light framing, repair of wall patching and drywall, acoustical ceiling repair and floor tiling
Painting: Responsible for maintaining the interior or exterior of assigned buildings. Possess skills to prepare surfaces for application of paint materials. Ability to apply paint, varnish, stains, enamel or lacquer to various interior and exterior surfaces
Ability to read and write English to submit written reports and work orders
Ability to work as part of a team and serve as the work leader for a small group of Building Maintenance Workers, temporary staff or student staff
Required to operate a motor vehicle. Requires a California driver’s license
Experience with and ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain electronic lock systems
A working knowledge of University policies and procedures

Operational responsibility for the maintenance and repair of all buildings within Student Housing
Assigned duties in multiple semi-skilled areas within the building trades to include: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and lock repair
