We are looking for an Accounts Receivable Clerk to support financial operations for a long-term contract opportunity based in Richmond, Virginia. This position focuses on maintaining accurate receivables activity, applying incoming payments, and following up on outstanding commercial balances with professionalism and attention to detail. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with billing processes, cash posting, and collection efforts while helping keep account records current and reliable.
Job Responsibility:
Process customer invoices and maintain accurate accounts receivable records to support timely payment activity
Apply incoming payments correctly and reconcile cash receipts against open balances and remittance details
Conduct commercial collection follow-up with customers to resolve overdue accounts and reduce aging balances
Review account activity to identify discrepancies, research payment issues, and coordinate resolutions with internal teams or clients
Support billing operations by preparing, verifying, and updating invoice information for accuracy and completeness
Monitor outstanding receivables and provide regular status updates on collection progress and account concerns
Maintain organized documentation related to payments, correspondence, and account adjustments for audit readiness
Assist with cash collection efforts and other related accounting support tasks as needed
Requirements:
Experience supporting accounts receivable activities in a business or corporate environment
Working knowledge of commercial collections and customer follow-up on past-due balances
Ability to post and reconcile cash applications with a high level of accuracy
Familiarity with billing functions, invoice review, and payment tracking processes
Strong attention to detail with the ability to investigate and resolve account discrepancies
Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with customers and internal stakeholders
Proficiency with standard accounting systems and Microsoft Office tools, especially spreadsheet-based tracking
