We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to support a non-profit organization in Lewiston, Maine through a Long-term Contract assignment. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting specialist who can manage invoice processing, payment activity, and expense coding with accuracy and consistency. The role will contribute to timely financial operations while helping maintain reliable records and strong internal controls.
Job Responsibility
Review vendor invoices, confirm supporting documentation, and prepare items for accurate entry into the accounts payable workflow
Assign appropriate general ledger codes to invoices and payment records to ensure expenses are recorded correctly
Process payments through ACH transactions and check runs in accordance with established schedules and approval requirements
Reconcile payable activity, investigate discrepancies, and follow up with internal teams or vendors to resolve outstanding issues
Maintain organized financial documentation and update records to support audits, reporting, and day-to-day accounting operations
Monitor payment deadlines and help ensure vendors are paid on time while adhering to organizational policies
Communicate clearly with vendors and staff regarding invoice status, payment questions, and account details
Requirements
Experience handling full-cycle accounts payable responsibilities in an accounting environment
Working knowledge of invoice coding and expense allocation across appropriate accounts
Hands-on experience processing ACH payments and coordinating routine check runs
Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors and maintain accurate financial records
Proficiency using accounting systems and standard office software to manage payable transactions
Ability to organize multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a structured finance setting
