We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join a high-volume accounting team in Richmond, Virginia in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This remote position follows a Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment while managing a steady flow of invoice activity. The person in this role will partner with vendors and internal accounting staff to keep payment operations accurate, timely, and well organized.
Job Responsibility:
Process a high daily volume of invoices with accuracy and consistent attention to deadlines
Review and assign proper account codes to invoices before entering them into the accounts payable workflow
Communicate with vendors to resolve billing questions, payment issues, and documentation discrepancies
Support recurring payment activities, including ACH transactions and check run preparation
Maintain organized accounts payable records and ensure supporting documentation is complete and audit-ready
Collaborate with the broader accounting team to help maintain smooth day-to-day financial operations
Use Excel to track, reconcile, and analyze payable activity as needed
Contribute to accounting support efforts related to acquisitions or changes within a private equity-backed business environment
Requirements:
At least 5 years of accounts payable experience, preferably in a high-volume setting
Proven ability to process invoices efficiently while maintaining strong accuracy
Hands-on experience with account coding and invoice entry
Working knowledge of ACH payments and check run procedures
Proficiency in Excel for reporting, tracking, and account support tasks
Strong communication skills for working effectively with vendors and internal stakeholders
Experience in merger and acquisition environments or within a private equity-backed company is a plus
