We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to join a grant-making nonprofit organization on a Contract basis in Atlanta, Georgia. This position supports core accounting operations and helps maintain accurate financial records across daily transactions, reconciliations, and reporting activities. The role is well suited for an early-career accounting specialist who is comfortable working in a hybrid environment and can contribute reliably to a fast-paced finance team.
Job Responsibility:
Manage routine accounting activities, including processing financial transactions and maintaining accurate ledger support
Perform bank and payroll reconciliations to confirm balances, resolve discrepancies, and strengthen financial accuracy
Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and collections processes to help ensure timely cash flow and vendor payments
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports by compiling data, reviewing activity, and assisting with close-related tasks
Monitor payment activity for carriers and other partners to help confirm obligations are met on schedule
Assist with shared services and grant-related financial administration when needed, including support for nonprofit funding activities
Use Excel to organize, analyze, and validate accounting data for reporting and day-to-day operations
Collaborate with accounting leadership and team members in a hybrid setting, working onsite Tuesday through Thursday and remotely on Monday and Friday
Requirements:
3-5 years of accounting experience in a generalist or accounting support role
Hands-on experience with account reconciliations, including bank and payroll-related reconciliations
Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, and general accounting functions
Proficiency in Excel for financial tracking, analysis, and reconciliation tasks
Ability to produce accurate monthly and quarterly financial reporting support
Strong attention to detail, dependability, and ability to manage a permanent 40-hour work schedule
Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders
Nice to have:
Experience in nonprofit, philanthropy, grants administration, or funder-related environments is helpful but not required
