We are looking for an experienced Accounting Specialist to join our team in Palm Desert, California, on a long-term contract basis. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations within a government setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting practices and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibility:
Process accounts payable transactions, ensuring bills are uploaded and payments are made on time while maintaining precise records
Generate and distribute invoices to the appropriate stakeholders
Accurately code and record cash receipts within the accounting system
Conduct regular bank reconciliations to support effective cash management
Review and update General Ledger entries, contributing to monthly and year-end close activities
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports as required
Support compliance reporting, including Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards, if applicable
Ensure all accounting procedures meet regulatory standards and maintain proper documentation
Collaborate with internal teams to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data
Perform other accounting and administrative duties as needed to support the department
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably within a nonprofit or government environment
Proficiency in accounting systems
experience with Oracle is advantageous
Strong knowledge of accounts payable, invoicing, bank reconciliations, and General Ledger management
Demonstrated experience in coding and processing cash receipts
Familiarity with compliance reporting, such as federal award schedules, is helpful
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines consistently
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with team members
