Job Description:

We are seeking a hands-on, execution-focused Accounting Manager for a critical contract term ending in December 2027. This is a "Working Manager" role, meaning you will balance high-level team leadership with direct involvement in transactional processing, reconciliations, and journal entries. This position is a maternity leave backfill. A primary objective for the incoming manager will be leading the system conversion to Sage Intacct, ensuring a seamless transition and training period before the current manager's departure in August.

Job Responsibility:

  • Actively participate in AP, AR, and general ledger activities
  • Step in to troubleshoot posting errors or system issues
  • Provide managerial oversight for payroll processed through ADP and Payworks
  • Drive the monthly close (approx. 15-day cycle) and annual close processes
  • Ensure all accruals, prepaids, and intercompany transactions are accurate
  • Perform deep dives into specific expenses and operational drivers to provide management with clear explanations of financial data
  • Lead year-end audit activities, prepare audit schedules directly, and act as the primary point of contact for external auditors
  • Lead the system conversion to Sage Intacct
  • Manage the transition from legacy Sage software to Sage Intacct
  • Oversee payroll functions via ADP/Payworks
  • Investigate financial variances to provide C-suite executives with clear, data-driven explanations
  • Manage the year-end audit process and ensure internal controls are strictly followed

Requirements:

  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience in a high-volume, operational environment
  • Must have a solid understanding of the Canadian accounting landscape and local business practices
  • Strong proficiency in Sage products (Sage 300 or Sage Intacct preferred)
  • Experience with Sage AP (Paperless workflow) highly desirable
  • Advanced Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, Index/Match)
  • Working knowledge of SQL for data validation and reporting is a bonus
  • Professional CPA designation is considered a significant asset
  • Canadian experience is a mandatory requirement
  • Must demonstrate a roll-up-your-sleeves leadership style and the ability to maintain process discipline in a fast-paced setting
