My client is an outsourced accounting team specializing in service to tax exempt and non-profit associations. They are searching for an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations and compliance for nonprofit organizations in McLean, Virginia. This role focuses on delivering expert accounting services, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring financial transparency for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit accounting, exceptional organizational skills, and a commitment to helping clients achieve their missions through accurate and efficient financial management.
Job Responsibility
Manage and review nonprofit financial operations, including fund accounting, tracking restricted and unrestricted revenue, and grant-related finances
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets and profit and loss reports
Oversee payroll processes and ensure compliance with nonprofit-specific tax and payroll regulations
Coordinate and ensure timely filing of Form 990 and other required regulatory documentation
Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls tailored to nonprofit financial activities
Lead client onboarding processes by assessing accounting systems, compliance requirements, and operational needs
Provide strategic advice on governance, financial reporting, and compliance best practices for nonprofit organizations
Stay current with regulatory changes affecting tax-exempt entities and communicate updates to clients
Manage client deliverables effectively to ensure high-quality service and satisfaction
Offer guidance on risk management and regulatory compliance to empower nonprofit organizations in achieving their objectives
Requirements
Active CPA certification is preferred
At least 7 years of experience in nonprofit accounting, with expertise in 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations
Strong knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting principles and regulations for tax-exempt entities
Proven experience with financial processes such as month-end close, general ledger management, and account reconciliation
Ability to handle journal entries and conduct financial statement audits
Exceptional communication skills and a dedication to providing outstanding client service
Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple clients and thrive in a fast-paced environment
