Job Description:

Our client, a well-established non-profit is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations and ensure compliance with federal, local, and internal regulations in Washington, DC. In this role, you will lead a team responsible for accounting functions, general ledger, financial reporting, and audits while maintaining accuracy and operational efficiency. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to process improvements and cross-functional initiatives while supporting the organization's financial goals.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supervise and coordinate the preparation of monthly general ledgers, trial balances, reconciliations, and financial statements
  • Oversee the production of annual audited financial statements and regulatory filings, including Forms 5500, 990, and 945, as well as local tax returns
  • Manage billing and administration processes for benefit plans, ensuring proper security measures are in place
  • Monitor monthly postings, reconciliations, and contribution payments for various accounts and trusts
  • Support collection efforts for unpaid contributions and withdrawal liabilities, including litigation support when necessary
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards regarding protected health information and other financial regulations
  • Direct and evaluate the workload of a team of four employees, focusing on hiring, training, and performance management
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial expertise and support organizational initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements to enhance operations
  • Document and monitor financial processes and procedures to strengthen internal controls

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of accounting experience, including 2-4 years in a supervisory role
  • In-depth knowledge of financial reporting principles and general accounting practices
  • Familiarity with pension and healthcare accounting, as well as regulatory reporting requirements, is highly preferred
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication and leadership abilities to mentor and manage a team effectively

Nice to have:

Familiarity with pension and healthcare accounting, as well as regulatory reporting requirements, is highly preferred
