Job Description

Our company is seeking an experienced and hands-on Accounting Manager for a contract assignment in Fitchburg, MA. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including a strong background in the higher education industry. This is a fully on-site role, and we’re looking for someone who thrives on face-to-face collaboration and is ready to hit the ground running.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements, including those specific to higher education
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls
  • Prepare budget reports and support forecasting and audit processes
  • Mentor and guide junior accounting staff
  • Act as a key liaison with external auditors and other stakeholders

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ accounting experience
  • prior roles in or supporting higher education are strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Dynamic, positive attitude with excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., Workday, NetSuite, QuickBooks, etc.) and strong Excel skills
  • Ability to work fully on-site in Fitchburg, MA (no hybrid or remote options)
