Robert Half is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization to identify an experienced and hands-on Accounting Manager. This is a direct-hire opportunity for a player-coach who enjoys rolling up their sleeves while also leading and developing a small accounting team. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit accounting expertise along with the ability to improve processes and support organizational growth.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting
Manage and participate in fund and grant accounting, ensuring compliance with donor and regulatory requirements
Prepare and review financial statements, budgets, and variance analyses for leadership
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while remaining actively involved in transactional work
Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors
Strengthen internal controls, streamline processes, and support system improvements
Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning
Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit-specific accounting standards
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
At least 5 years of accounting experience, including work in nonprofit organizations or a similar regulated environment
Demonstrated knowledge of month-end close, general ledger management, and preparation of financial statements
Experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, and fixed asset accounting
Familiarity with grant accounting, restricted funds, and nonprofit compliance requirements, including single audit support
Strong understanding of audit preparation, financial reporting standards, and internal control practices
Ability to communicate financial guidance clearly and collaborate effectively with colleagues across multiple departments
