We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to support a non-profit organization in Raleigh, North Carolina through a Long-term Contract engagement. This position will provide leadership across accounting and procurement operations, helping ensure strong financial oversight, accurate reporting, and effective internal controls. The role is well suited for a hands-on, detail-oriented finance leader who can guide a team, manage complex close activities, and contribute to a mission-driven environment. This role will be mostly onsite with potential for 1 day remote after getting ramped up.
Job Responsibility:
Lead daily accounting and procurement activities for the finance department, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational policies
Direct and support a team that includes accounting, accounts payable, and procurement staff, setting priorities and promoting high performance
Oversee the month-end close process, reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, and financial results to maintain timely and reliable reporting
Manage non-profit fund accounting activities, including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds and preserving compliance with applicable reporting standards
Review accounts payable operations and procurement workflows to strengthen controls, maintain proper documentation, and support smooth vendor transactions
Partner with finance leadership and internal stakeholders to improve processes, address operational issues, and support sound financial decision-making
Monitor the accuracy of accounting records within Abila MIP and help maintain effective use of the system for reporting and day-to-day financial management
Ensure financial practices follow established internal controls, regulatory expectations, and organizational guidelines
Requirements:
3-5 years' proven experience in a managerial capacity
Strong background managing month-end close in a complex accounting environment
Hands-on knowledge of non-profit fund accounting principles and financial reporting requirements
Experience supervising accounting, accounts payable, or procurement staff
Proficiency with Abila MIP or closely related accounting systems
Solid understanding of internal controls, reconciliations, and financial compliance practices
Ability to lead multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines
