The Accounting Manager is a senior-level position responsible for both executing and overseeing core accounting functions. This person will ensure the integrity of financial data, support compliance requirements, and provide reliable reporting to help leadership make informed decisions. The role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage deadlines, and confidence working across multiple programs and stakeholders.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain and oversee the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
Lead monthly and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and reporting
Review postings from accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and external systems
Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
Assist with monthly financial statements, analysis, and budgets
Manage accruals, including payroll, PTO, and benefits, as well as depreciation, prepaids, and other balance sheet accounts
Prepare and submit grant billing and reimbursement requests
Support grant reporting and ensure compliance with funding requirements
Review and validate cost allocation methodologies across programs and funding sources for accuracy, consistency, and compliance
Develop custom financial reports, including drill-down and multi-segment reporting to support program and leadership needs
Lead audit preparation and support external auditors
Prepare schedules for tax filings
Identify and implement process improvements and internal controls
Mentor and support accounting staff
Assist with collections and cash application
Participate in cross-functional projects
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline is required
At least 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including leadership-level ownership of close and reporting processes
Minimum of 2 years of nonprofit fund accounting experience is required
Strong background in general ledger management, account reconciliation, financial statement preparation, and audit support
Experience with grant accounting, reimbursement-based funding, and federal or state funding compliance is strongly preferred
Proficiency in Excel and accounting platforms is required
experience with Sage Intacct is preferred
Familiarity with multi-site or multi-entity organizations and program-based cost allocation is preferred
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines effectively
