Job Description

Robert Half is partnered with a leading Baton Rouge construction company in search of an Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of reporting. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage general ledger activity, drive month-end and year-end closing processes, and develop strong internal controls. The ideal candidate will possess advanced analytical skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with operational teams to enhance financial performance and streamline processes.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure compliance with regulations and accuracy in reporting
  • Manage monthly and annual close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Lead the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, providing insights to support strategic decisions
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Controller to implement and maintain robust internal controls to protect company assets
  • Coordinate with external auditors, ensuring timely responses to audit requests and proper documentation
  • Identify and execute opportunities to enhance finance processes and adopt best practices for efficiency
  • Optimize workflows and reporting using Vista by Trimble (Viewpoint) systems, ensuring data integrity
  • Partner with operations and project management teams to improve job cost visibility and forecasting accuracy
  • Provide leadership to the accounting team, offering coaching, mentorship, and performance evaluations
  • Support special financial analysis projects and other duties as needed to meet organizational goals

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • prior public accounting and/or construction industry experience preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards
  • Proficiency in construction accounting, job costing structures, and related reporting systems
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with ERP systems
  • Vista Viewpoint expertise strongly preferred
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with other Microsoft Office products
  • Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement in processes

  • If in a Division outside North America ensure the financials are also presented appropriately in other forms required for Statutory reporting (i.e. IFRS, German GAAP, etc.)
  • Mentor and guide staff with questions and accounting issues
  • Lead the team to accomplish personal and professional goals
  • Develop strong working relationships with coworkers and other departments
  • Navigate and extracting data from financial systems to investigate and resolve outstanding items as appropriate
  • Write quarterly balance sheet fluctuation narratives to support the external financial reporting process and external audit
  • Identify process inefficiencies and helping to support the identification of the underlying root causes
