Our Robert Half Madison team is seeking an experienced accounting professional with construction industry expertise to lead core accounting operations, support financial reporting, and provide insight into project and cost performance for one of our newer clients. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing hands-on accounting work with process improvement, team support, and cross-functional partnership.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, bank reconciliations, and cash transactions
Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and balance sheet reconciliations to support accurate month-end and year-end close
Assist with financial statement preparation, budgeting, audit support, and variance analysis for management review
Manage sales and use tax processes, including taxability review, invoice accuracy, and timely state filings
Support project and cost accounting activities, including job costing, work-in-progress review, forecasting, overhead analysis, and closeout procedures
Oversee billing and collections activities, maintain aging accuracy, and resolve customer invoicing discrepancies in a timely manner
Supervise vendor invoice processing, payment accuracy, expense coding, and purchasing-related accounting support
Partner with operations and project teams to strengthen reporting, improve processes, support ERP usage, and ensure accurate financial and project coding
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of accounting experience, including relevant public accounting and/or industry experience
Prior construction accounting experience required, including knowledge of job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, work-in-progress schedules, and union payroll
Experience with month-end close, financial statement preparation, and external audit coordination
CPA or CMA is a plus
Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction revenue recognition principles
Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP or construction accounting systems
Proven analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders
Experience leading or mentoring staff is preferred
