Job Description

Robert Half Management Resources is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Shared Services Leader for a high-volume, complex organization in the Memphis, TN area. This role oversees a large AP function and is responsible for driving operational excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement across a shared services environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and manage a team of 20+ AP professionals, including supervisory staff
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant processing of all AP transactions
  • Oversee complex, high-volume accounts payable operations and workflows
  • Maintain strong adherence to internal controls, SOX compliance, and company policies
  • Monitor KPIs and service levels to ensure operational excellence
  • Partner with shared services leadership to design and implement process improvements and automation initiatives
  • Reduce manual processes and improve end-to-end AP efficiency
  • Support and/or lead ERP or system implementation and enhancement projects
  • Identify opportunities to streamline invoice processing, approvals, and payment cycles
  • Collaborate with procurement, operations, and purchasing teams to improve upstream processes
  • Work closely with buyers and cross-functional leaders to resolve escalated issues
  • Strengthen supplier relationships and improve vendor experience
  • Ensure timely resolution of invoice and payment inquiries
  • Build and sustain a high-performance, customer-focused AP team culture
  • Drive employee engagement, recognition, and retention strategies
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities for team members
  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset across the function

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Strong accounting background with emphasis on Accounts Payable or shared services operations
  • Experience leading large teams (15–25+ employees) in a high-volume environment
  • Deep understanding of SOX compliance and internal controls
  • Experience in complex AP environments (multi-entity, high transaction volume, or global operations)
  • Proven ability to lead process improvement initiatives

Nice to have

  • Shared services center (SSC) experience strongly preferred
  • ERP implementation or major system transformation experience
  • Exposure to automation tools or AP workflow optimization initiatives
  • Experience working in large-scale or enterprise-level organizations
  • Strong cross-functional partnership experience (procurement, operations, finance)
