We are looking for an Accounting Clerk to support a local municipality. This Contract position is ideal for someone who combines strong customer service skills with confidence in handling financial transactions in a public-facing setting. The person in this role will assist residents with tax payments, maintain accurate account records, and provide clear support for account-related questions.
Job Responsibility:
Receive and process tax payments made by cash, check, or credit/debit card while following established handling procedures
Review customer account information, locate the correct records, and post payments accurately to the appropriate accounts
Assist residents in person or through other service channels by answering questions related to balances, payments, and account activity
Perform data entry tasks with a high degree of accuracy to maintain current and reliable financial records
Balance daily receipts and support routine reconciliation of payment activity to ensure completeness and accuracy
Resolve straightforward payment or account discrepancies by researching records and communicating next steps clearly
Maintain organized documentation for transactions and follow municipal policies for recordkeeping and compliance
Requirements:
At least 3 years of experience in customer service, accounting support, cashiering, or a similar transaction-focused role
Demonstrated experience handling cash and processing payments accurately in a high-volume environment
Working knowledge of accounts receivable practices and payment posting procedures
Strong data entry skills with close attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to interact professionally with the public and explain account information clearly and courteously
Comfort using computer systems to search account records, enter payment details, and update information
Reliable organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy
