We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join our team on a long-term contract basis in Santa Cruz, California. This role involves performing a variety of technical and clerical tasks related to financial activities, including maintaining accounting records, reconciling accounts, and supporting departmental operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently while ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations.
Job Responsibility:
Process and maintain financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grant applications
Enter and retrieve data in computerized accounting systems, generating accurate financial reports as needed
Prepare journal entries, including budget adjustments and revenue or expenditure reconciliations
Conduct account reconciliations for bank and general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy
Assist with audits by preparing working papers and researching information to resolve discrepancies
Respond to inquiries from other departments and the public, providing clear explanations and follow-up on unresolved issues
Interpret and apply rules, regulations, and policies relevant to financial operations
Monitor past due accounts and support revenue collection efforts
Coordinate with departmental staff to facilitate grant-related processes and contracts
Perform additional duties as required to support the accounting team
Requirements:
At least 2 years of experience in accounting or a related field
Proficiency in data entry and using computerized accounting systems
Strong skills in processing invoices and preparing journal entries
Experience with cash and account reconciliations
Working knowledge of operational budgets and financial adjustments
Ability to interpret and apply financial policies and regulations
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial tasks
