We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to support lease accounting activities within a retail corporate office in Chesapeake, Virginia. This Contract position will serve as an important connection point between store teams, operations, and accounting, helping maintain accurate financial records and resolve payment and account issues efficiently. The role is well suited for someone who is comfortable working with large volumes of reconciliations, handling questions from multiple stakeholders, and keeping lease-related transactions organized and current.
Job Responsibility
Act as the primary contact between retail locations, operations partners, and the accounting team to coordinate lease-related information and address discrepancies
Perform frequent reconciliations for rent, escrow, operating expenses, and other lease charges to ensure financial records are accurate and complete
Review payment activity and supporting documentation to identify variances, research issues, and follow through on resolution
Prepare and record journal entries to correct general ledger coding and maintain proper account alignment
Track incoming emails, requests, and documentation, responding promptly and directing questions to the appropriate resources when needed
Provide guidance to store personnel on required processes and documentation standards related to lease accounting activities
Maintain organized records for lease transactions, reconciliations, and adjustments to support reporting and audit readiness
Requirements
Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial operations, preferably in a high-volume environment
Working knowledge of general ledger activity, account reconciliation, and journal entry preparation
Strong attention to detail with the ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve issues accurately
Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with stores, operations teams, and accounting staff
Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to frequent requests, and meet deadlines consistently
Proficiency with spreadsheets and standard office software used for financial tracking and reporting
Prior exposure to lease accounting, rent processing, or retail accounting environments is preferred
