We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to support day-to-day financial operations for a team based in Silver Spring, Maryland. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable handling high-volume accounting tasks in a fast-paced environment. The person in this role will contribute to accurate payment processing, record maintenance, and general accounting support while working with tools such as QuickBooks and Bill.com.
Job Responsibility:
Process vendor invoices accurately and enter payment details into accounting systems in a timely manner
Support accounts payable activities by reviewing, coding, and preparing invoices for approval and payment
Assist with accounts receivable tracking and maintain organized financial records for follow-up and reporting
Perform data entry with a high level of accuracy while updating accounting information across internal files and platforms
Use QuickBooks and Bill.com to manage transaction records, payment workflows, and supporting documentation
Reconcile bank activity and help identify discrepancies by comparing statements with internal accounting records
Maintain digital and physical filing systems to ensure financial documents are easy to retrieve and audit-ready
Provide general administrative and accounting support to help keep daily finance operations running smoothly
Requirements:
Previous experience supporting accounting operations, including accounts payable processing and invoice entry
Working knowledge of accounts receivable functions and basic bank reconciliation practices
Proficiency with QuickBooks and Bill.com in a business accounting environment
Ability to code invoices correctly and maintain accurate financial records
Strong data entry skills with close attention to detail and consistency
Organized approach to filing, documentation, and task follow-through
Effective communication skills and the ability to work reliably in a contract-based role
