We are looking for a detail-oriented entry-level Accountant to join a team in New York, New York in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This role supports day-to-day accounts receivable and tenant accounting activities, with a strong focus on security deposits, cash application, reconciliations, and account research. The position is well suited for someone who is comfortable working with financial data, managing recurring deadlines, and providing responsive support to internal teams and residents.
Job Responsibility:
Manage the preparation, tracking, and bank submission of security deposit activity, including new deposits, refunds, and related documentation
Reconcile tenant ledgers, research balances, and record deposit-related charges, adjustments, and move-out prorations in Yardi
Monitor move-outs, lease expirations, and outstanding balances to help maintain accurate resident accounts and support leasing follow-up
Apply cash receipts, review daily postings for accuracy, and enter or validate prepayments and other account transactions
Coordinate rent bill distribution support and prepare materials for collection agency referrals on delinquent accounts
Process recurring deposit turnover activity, including seasonal deposits and withdrawals, while ensuring required timelines are met for returns
Upload payroll deduction files into Yardi, verify transaction accuracy, and resolve discrepancies tied to resident payment activity
Prepare cash transfers between lockbox and operating accounts and assist with ad hoc accounts receivable analysis as needed
Respond to resident account questions, perform account research, and work through issues to full resolution in partnership with the AR Manager
Requirements:
Experience supporting accounting, accounts receivable, or tenant ledger functions in an entry-level finance role
Working knowledge of cash application, daily cash receipts, bank deposits, and account reconciliations
Familiarity with security deposit processing, refunds, and account balancing procedures
Hands-on experience using Yardi or similar property management/accounting software
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including functions such as VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables
Ability to review financial data accurately, investigate discrepancies, and maintain organized supporting documentation
Strong communication skills and the ability to assist residents and internal teams with account-related questions
