Our agency is seeking a highly skilled Accountant III (Specialized Finance Manager) for a premier 1-year contract opportunity with our client, a globally recognized financial institution located in downtown Toronto. Operating within the Chief Accountant's Department under Accounting Policy and Advisory, this advisory-focused role is responsible for the development, maintenance, and interpretation of the Bank's accounting policies in support of the Wholesale Banking segment. This is a dynamic, non-repetitive contract covering a parental leave. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert on complex accounting issues (such as financial instruments and consolidation), provide financial accounting advisory support to various Business units and Corporate areas, and ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibility
Provide timely, accurate, and practical technical accounting advisory services under IFRS to internal stakeholders, translating complex accounting topics into clear, actionable advice
Conduct technical accounting research, benchmarking, and analysis
prepare accounting policy updates, memos, and presentation materials
Review new business and product proposals—including IFRS 9 business model assessments and consolidation assessments—and advise on related accounting implications
Assist in the preparation of external consolidated shareholder reports (MD&A, Financial Statements and Notes, Supplemental Financial Information), ensuring robust disclosures and compliance with regulatory (OSC and SEC) standards
Manage and cultivate strong working relationships with internal business partners (Segment Finance, Product Control, Finance Operations, Risk, etc.) and external auditors
Participate in daily stakeholder meetings and collaborative sessions (typically 2 to 3 hours daily) to address emerging and complex accounting issues
Requirements
Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Business Administration (BA)
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required (candidates in the final stages of completion with only one exam remaining may be considered)
3 to 7 years of overall financial accounting experience, with a heavy emphasis on technical accounting policy and advisory (purely operational accounting backgrounds will not be considered)
Proven experience working extensively with IFRS guidance and advising on accounting policy
Professional background stemming from a Big 4 accounting firm (ideally with Audit experience)
Prior experience working within financial institutions (such as banks or credit unions)
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
