We are looking for an entry-level Accountant to support day-to-day financial operations for a non-profit organization in Brooklyn, New York. This Long-term Contract opportunity is well suited for someone who is eager to build hands-on experience across core accounting activities while contributing to accurate and timely financial reporting. The role offers exposure to both payables and receivables, along with account balancing and routine financial record maintenance.
Job Responsibility:
Process vendor invoices, review supporting documentation, and help ensure payments are completed accurately and on schedule
Assist with recording incoming payments and maintaining organized accounts receivable records for timely follow-up and tracking
Prepare and post routine journal entries to keep financial data current and properly documented
Reconcile bank activity and investigate discrepancies to maintain accurate cash records
Compare general ledger balances against supporting schedules and resolve account variances as needed
Support monthly accounting close tasks by organizing records, updating reconciliations, and assisting with reporting preparation
Maintain clear and accurate financial documentation in alignment with internal accounting procedures
Partner with team members to address transaction questions and help improve the accuracy of day-to-day accounting operations
Requirements:
Foundational knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting principles
Experience assisting with bank reconciliations and reviewing financial transactions for accuracy
Ability to prepare accounting entries and support account reconciliation activities
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage recurring tasks in a deadline-driven environment
Proficiency with spreadsheets and comfort working with accounting systems and financial records
Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders
Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred
