Job Description:

The local authority is committed to supporting its residents through high-quality, person-centred services. We are looking for a dedicated Accommodation Needs Assessment Officer to join our Housing Needs Service and help deliver critical housing support to some of our most vulnerable residents. As an Accommodation Needs Assessment Officer, you will play a vital role in assessing and identifying suitable accommodation for individuals and families facing homelessness or housing insecurity. You’ll ensure that all assessments are fair, thorough, and compliant with statutory duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Housing Act 1996. This is a frontline role that requires a compassionate approach, a strong understanding of housing legislation, and the ability to balance complex needs with available housing resources.

Job Responsibility:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of housing and support needs for individuals and families
  • Prepare detailed casework and accommodation plans based on legal duties and local policies
  • Liaise with internal teams, landlords, supported housing providers, and voluntary sector agencies to secure appropriate accommodation options
  • Monitor and review placements to ensure suitability and sustainability
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all casework is compliant with data protection and safeguarding procedures

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of housing legislation, particularly the Homelessness Reduction Act and relevant statutory guidance
  • Experience working with vulnerable people in a housing, social care, or public sector environment
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong case management and organisational skills
