Job Description:

We are looking for a new colleague to join our Student Success Team in Hamburg on a part-time basis /23 hour a week starting as soon as possible, who shares our vision of excellence in education and who is committed to making a difference in the lives of our students and staff. The purpose of the UE Student Success Centre is to improve student retention, satisfaction and academic success by providing resources, training, workshops, services, and one-on-one support. The Centre supports students in pursuing academic success using a holistic approach to the student learning experience.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support student retention initiatives such as identifying and monitoring students at risk of non-progression or withdrawal using academic performance indicators, and engagement trends
  • Develop and implement Academic Improvement Plans (AIPs) in collaboration with students, service center and academics, ensuring measurable goals, structured follow-up, and clear accountability
  • Initiate and maintain proactive communication with retention-risk students to encourage engagement, persistence, and timely use of support services
  • Curate and coordinate a program of study and learning strategy workshops that complement existing academic writing and research support
  • Deliver individualized student support through scheduled appointments, helping students build confidence and develop effective study skills such as organization, planning, problem-solving, and time management
  • Manage and further develop the existing communication plan for the Student Success Centre activities and resources
  • Maintain and enhance digital learning and information resources that support student progression
  • Oversee communication across various channels (internal and external, including social media), ensuring alignment with institutional goals and visibility of support services
  • Providing case-specific psycho-social support regarding integration and personal and academic development in Germany
  • Coordinate, plan, and administer the Health and Wellbeing Micro-credential for students each semester

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree required
  • Academic skills and student support in higher education or a similar environment such as schools/colleges or companies
  • Teaching methods and strategies appropriate for higher education and students with different modes of study from a diverse range of educational backgrounds and ages
  • Supporting students/adults with disabilities/health conditions preferably within an educational context
  • Good knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles and legislative requirements including confidentiality and data protection
  • Experience supporting the academic success of students with diverse learning needs through tailored advising and guidance, preferably in a higher education context
  • High level of communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including 1:1 and group work
  • Experience in generating and implementing innovative ideas and approaches to supporting students
  • Some experience in supporting students in at least one student need category: mental health, disabilities, learning differences, and cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent skills and best practices for research, academic integrity, critical thinking, problem-solving, stress management, testing strategies, online learning strategies & skill development strategies
  • Ability to provide engaging and effective learning skills workshops and other interventions to improve student engagement
  • Ability to identify barriers to overall student learning experiences and work with key members of the team to help improve student experience
  • Demonstrated commitment & ability to improve educational achievement for students
  • Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with students
  • Ability to process/analyse information and effectively communicate it to students
  • Strong motivation for delivering empathic, compassionate, consistent, accurate, developmental, student-focused, appreciative, and honest advising
  • Strong customer service orientation with a desire to help students succeed in reaching their goals
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation and communication skills, including the ability to engage in public speaking with large audiences as well as in small groups or larger workshops
  • Excellent knowledge of designing and facilitating engaging and participatory workshops to groups of students with a range of levels
  • Experience and expertise in adult learning principles with extensive knowledge of evidence-based, theory-informed university-level academic skills strategies
