Academic Advisor

• Advisors engage students in their educational planning, teach them how to navigate college and university resources, and encourage them to take responsibility for decisions about their academic progress
• Additionally, the academic advisor supports the mission of the college and each academic program through providing academic advising and administrative support

Requires a bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience. Education beyond the minimum degree requirement may count toward required experience if deemed relevant by the hiring manager. The degree requirement ensures candidates possess the foundational knowledge in educational theory, student development and institutional policy interpretation essential to effective academic advising. These competencies are typically developed and rigorously validated only through the comprehensive curriculum and intensive experiential learning inherent in a formal degree program.

• Demonstrated teaching and/or advising experience
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to make independent decisions, multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines and work with attention to detail with minimal supervision
• Enthusiasm for a constantly evolving work environment and aptitude for learning new skills
• Ability to develop and sustain collegial and professional working relationships with diverse groups of individuals and demonstrate strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and capacity to work with institutional systems
• Ability to use sound judgment under pressure
• Enthusiasm for and commitment to student development in rigorous and creative academic programs
